Grow-your-own pea shoots

Tins make the perfect container for homegrown herbs, shoots and seeds. Their nifty size means they will happily sit on a windowsill – any time of the year ¬– as long as it’s draft free.

Pea shoots are very easy to grow. To prepare for sowing, wash thoroughly and carefully puncture a few holes in the base of the tin to allow for drainage. Fill three-quarters full with potting compost and arrange a few pea shoot seeds on top of the soil, making sure they are evenly spaced, then cover with more soil.

Water regularly and watch and wait, you’ll be rewarded with pea sprouts in a week or so…
